Guestbook for Harold "Hal" Frederick Stone
|
|
I just found out that Hal had passed away. I hadn't seen him in a long time, but I was once his stepdaughter when he was married to my mother, Mary. He was very helpful to me in leaving Connecticut and living in Florida. I will never forget that.

Dearest Dorothy, Debbie & Harold, your loving husband - and father - will never be forgotten! He was so very special, as I had the opportunity to work with him at VIDEOTAPE CENTER & CENTREX PRODUCTIONS... those were very special years - my last in advertising, as I departed that crazy field in 1976, to paint and teach art. Hal & I would sit at the control panel in the studio; I drawing futuristic cars and Hal ALWAYS drawing cowboys & indians (Custer's Last Stand was his favorite subject) I kept reminding Hal that Custer lost the battle, but he had other thoughts!
Our time together alsoincluded the "CAWKEY CUP CHALLENGE", an ongoing tennis event between George Drop, a Goodyear Tire rep, & myself against Hal and Ed Grower, Centrex Sales Manager. These 'bloddy' matches were something to behold. The "CAWKEY CUP" was an old tin cup I found in my studio in Ohio, mounted on awooden slab base and sprayed silver - it was VERY special! We loved it! As I mentioned Hal will never be forgotten - he was just that type of guy who grows on you! Miss him, you bet!

Hal and I exchanged a few emails sharing Air Force experiences when I inquired about purchasing the book a few years ago. He inscribed the book making reference to our military "careers." I have always enjoyed Hal's contributions to the internet OTR Digest. He has been and will continue to be such a positive force in the OTR community. We all love Hal.

My sincere condolences to Dorothy and all of Hal's family. Although I only met him briefly on a few occasions, his passing affected me as that of an old friend would. He was larger than life in person and provided some very special memories for us all to treasure. He will be sorely missed but never gone while his memory lives on in our hearts.

I met Hal online through the OTR listeners group. As was the case with so many others I felt I 'knew' Hal. His messages jumped off the page so reflective of his personality. He was funny, friendly, with such a strong life force. I always felt his unique book would have been appreciated by a larger audience. I'll miss him a lot. My condolences to Dorothy and the children.

My sincere condolences to the Stone family. Although I've never met Hal in person, I'm so Thankful that I've had the chance to meet him by the way of his book and through his letters to the Old Time Radio List. It was always thrilling to see Hal's name listed as one of the letter writers for that issue, and I will miss that. Thank You, Hal

My condolences to Dorothy and the rest of Hal's family. Hal and I never met, but we did enjoy sparing by email. Hal's humour and understanding were very easy to see. Despite never meeting in person, I will miss him. I may have to change my name to the one he gave me, Awesome Aussie. He would enjoy this guestbook, if you don't live in a U.S. State then you are an 'other'. Its like being in an episode of LOST. I just know you set that up Hal.

Just wanted to express my sincerest regrets and condolences. I had only known him by the online radio digest and was lucky enough to have ordered his book and picture. With the book he took extra time to write about having been to my town of Chippewa Falls. We exchanged a few emails and I told him that my mother loved his book. He told me how that was the best compliment he could have and posted an email on the radio digest saying "I want to publicly thank Michael Kurtenbach for his recent review of my book. (No, I didn't ghost write it for him) :)". A true gentelman and huge loss to the world.

My heartfelt condolences to Dorothy, and the rest of Hal's family & friends.
As an actor, it was a pleasure to work with Hal; as a human being, it was a blessing to know him. As countless testimonies have shown, he truly was one of those gifted - and gifting - souls, who you felt you'd known forever, just after meeting!

I never met Hal face to face. He became one of my best friend's as I would listen to "Archie Andrews show" and good 'ol "Jughead",while sitting on my grandfather's lap during a snow storm in Oriskany Falls, New York.
I have grown older now, and living in Florida...but you know, the good old memories will last forever.
So, good by my "friend" and RELAX..

I am the young "whippersnapper", as Hal dubbed me, who helped him illustrate his book. Hal took me under his wing before he ever met me in person and he became my friend, my mentor and my surrogate grandfather as we worked on his book together upon my arrival in Sedona. He continued to help me along in life, love, and career after I moved to NYC after just 7 months of working with him. I will always be grateful to him for everything he did for me and everything he taught me during our friendship and I will miss him always. He helped form who I am and thus will be with me forever. I will try to take comfort in that as we all mourn this great loss.

My condolences to the family. Hal and I met at Hofstra, having both been child models gave us a special bond. He later directed me in commercials and industrials at Centrex. In recent years we reconnected through the computer. He became my teacher of copy, cut and paste, And I so enjoyed spending time with he and Dorothy at a SPERDVAC convention and when I visited them in Sedona on a cross country trip. My school chum will be sorely missed.

I met Hal in 1997 and remained friends with him all these years. I shall miss him, his humor and his friendship. This is a very sad time for all his family and friends.
He lived life to the fullest and he lived it his way. Goodbye Hal, I will forever miss you.

It saddens me no end to hear of Hal Stone's passing. We didn't get to be together enough to reminisce about about our old radio days before the microphone. I am as sorry as can be and of course my condolences are with Mrs. Stone and family. Hal and I met at SPERDVAC conventions and although not having worked together, being on opposite coasts during our radio careers, Hal always greeted me as though we had. What a fine fellow was Hal.

The end of an era. I met Hal at the Videotape Center in 1963. Later on, I was his employee at Centrex Producions....
I just realized that I can't adequately describe how our lives were intertwined for so many wonderful years.
